Today, the state Senate Judiciary Committee broadened and expanded the North Carolina Child Abuse Reporting statutes. This law will require all child sex abuse be reported to law enforcement, and the failure to do so will be a crime.
This is something that I've been pushing for the past six years and believe it to be much needed protection. It places North Carolina in the forefront of child abuse reporting statutes across the country. I commend the Committee for doing so.
Extension of statute of limitations on child sex abuse is removed
Unfortunately, the extension of the statute of limitations for child sex abuse was removed. While
disappointing, it didn't surprise me.
All hope is not lost. The State House has a pending bill that would enlarge the statute of limitations until age 45 and include a one-year window. Please contact your legislators and let them know that you support this bill.
